Colorado State House District 42 candidate Q&A

Read Time:1 Minute, 52 Second

Why are you seeking public office?
I first ran for office because I am just like my neighbors and have experienced the same struggles. Too many people are having a hard time making ends meet, and I believe everyone deserves a fair shot at success. I was able to advocate for myself and find answers & solutions. Now that I’ve served two terms, I am proud of the work that I have accomplished, especially in climate & energy, housing, jobs, healthcare and survivors’ rights.

What will your top three priorities be if elected?
Promote policies that help working families do more than “just get by,” work to further mitigate climate change while empowering environmental justice communities & building a clean energy economy, and lower healthcare costs for everyone in Colorado.

Do you support some type of public option health insurance or Medicare for All at the state level? If so, which and why? If not, why not?
Our current healthcare system does not provide equal and affordable access for all. I believe our current system is too costly.

Have your views on policing and racism in Colorado changed this year? If so, how?
As a Black woman, my life has always been impacted by structural and systemic racism.

Do you place a greater importance on addressing climate change or preserving Colorado’s oil and gas industry? What steps would you take on these issues as a lawmaker?
I have passed numerous bills to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, provide for cleaner air and water for everyone, promote a clean energy economy and reduce waste.

Should Colorado consider any new gun laws? If so, which do you support?
