Multnomah County DA: Most Portland Protesters Won’t Face Charges, Deserve To Be Heard

A protester is shown being taken into custody by federal officers in Portland, Ore., last month. "We recognize that we undermine public safety, not promote it, if we leverage the force of our criminal justice system against peaceful protesters who are demanding to be heard," Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt said on Tuesday.

The newly elected district attorney, Mike Schmidt, said only those involved in “deliberate property damage, theft or force against another person or threats of force” may face charges.
