Investigators name suspect in weekend attack on the High Line Canal Trail

A man already in custody has been identified as a suspect in an attack of a woman who was jogging on the High Line Canal Trail.

An arrest warrant for first-degree assault has been issued for Julio Cesar Gonzalez, Aurora police said on Monday.

The attack happened about 6 a.m. Saturday near East First Avenue and Moline Street. The victim was hit multiple times with a board. She suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital, police said.

Gonzalez is already in custody on unrelated charges, police said.

Investigators are still looking for an assailant in a Wednesday attack on the trail near East Second Avenue. A woman was riding a bike, with her children, when a man hit her with a 2-by-4 piece of lumber, knocking the victim off of her bike. The victim and her children fled, she called police and was then taken to a hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
