A view from Chopper 5 showed a number of yellow evidence markers dotting a portion of the closed roadway near where a dark-colored sedan was with its driver and passenger side doors open.
Drivers were being told to use alternate routes in the area and there was no estimated time of reopening. Cars were seen turning around in the backup and driving the wrong way toward the nearest exit.
The CHP and Oakland police were combing the roadway for shell casings and interviewing drivers and other potential witnesses.
